Dharamsala: the heart of the exile Tibetan freedom movement.

Tibet Society each year in the summer aims to run an adventure of a lifetime to McLeod Ganj Dharamsala, in northern India. Tucked in within the snow-peaked mountains and lush-green valleys, Dharamsala is the heart of the exile non-violent Tibetan freedom movement; countless campaign groups, NGOs, freedom fighters and activists reside here, making this town the operational core for the Tibetan movement outside of Tibet, and a hub for forming global networks for this cause.

Hosting the biggest community of Tibetan refugees living in exile, Dharamsala is also home of the Central Tibetan Administration (Tibetan government in exile) and H.H. the Dalai Lama. Whilst many Tibetans are born in exile nowadays, thousands of Tibetans continue to make the treacherous journey over the Himalayas to seek refuge in order to escape the worsening conditions inside Tibet. This reality mixed with the many different layers of this town form the complex and unique society of Dharamsala which offers a truly deeper insight into the Tibetan struggle, as well as inspiration, education and ample opportunities for us to learn to better campaign for the Tibetan cause back home.

Inspiration, education, determination, action, celebration...

Tibet society offers a stimulating once in a lifetime experience in this journey to Dharamsala. Whilst here our key aim is to learn from and take direct involvement in the biggest and most influential Tibetan freedom groups in the movement and some of the longest serving Tibetan freedom fighters, political prisoners and high profile activists, so that we can gain knowledge to better and more effectively campaign for the Tibetan cause as an individual, and as a group. And of course, to meet and form lifetime friendships with the Tibetan people whom we stand in solidarity with.

Our trip will include a comprehensive activism programme hosted by Students for a Free Tibet India, who will give us an in depth experience into the reality of the issues affecting Tibet today, and provide materials and knowledge on movement building, campaigning strategies, methods of taking non-violent direct action, and ample more experiences and opportunities.
We will have the chance to meet and discuss with some of the most influential and inspirational figures of the Tibetan movement, and will also have time to partake in internships and volunteer opportunities at various NGOs and campaign groups across Dharamsala.

It will be a journey of inspiration. It will be a journey of realising the truths and realities of the Tibetan struggle. It will be a journey of education, understanding, determination, action and celebration.
It will be a journey to remember; and we will certainly never, ever, forget the high spirits and love of the Tibetan people whom we came across in our journey, whom will never, ever give up in their non-violent resistance for freedom.

Come and join us for a truly stimulating year ahead, as we begin our preparations for Tibet Society India Trip 2014!
